From Assos we travelled to Alexandria Troas, a city originally founded by Alexander the Great. In was in Troas that St Paul received a vision that he should spread the Good News from Asia Minor to Macedonia and thus Europe ( Acts 16:9) in 2 Timothy 4:13 we hear about Paul giving a marathon speech before leaving the city. the speech lasted 12 hours during which one young man, Eutychus, nodded off while perched on a window ledge. he plummeted three floors to his death. Paul checked on him, resurrected him and then continued with his speech until daybreak. Here we celebrated mass around very recently marble ruins while the Turkish archeologists looked on. this was a very special experience as the site is not really open to visitors yet.
Our last stop before retiring to Canakkale, on the Dardenelles, was the famed city of Troy. Home of the legendary Trojan horse, We saw excavations dating back some 4000 years.
This is one of the ceiling panels of the Temple of Apollo - around 2500 years old.
And yes, we saw the "real" Trojan horse!Tomorrow we visit Gallipoli, arriving as the Aussie diggers did, by boat.
