Firenze

We began our day with a taxi trip to Roma Termini to catch the Frecciargento train to Firenze. This train travels up to 250km/h!! The trip took about 90 mins to travel the 320km.

It was fortunate that our hotel is in the Santa Maria Novella Piazza only 300m away from the station. The Santa Maria Novella church dominates the square.

Some remarkable detail on the facade and inside as well.
This is our modest hotel room ............ Actually it's a high end shop front window.

After unpacking we headed off to find Firenze's most famous inhabitant - David! Michangelo's David is inside the Accademia Galleria and the No Photo law applies here so i just cheated via Google images but we did manage a photo with a very colorful version at the back of the gallery.

This is another more realistic David copy outside Palazzo Vecchio.

We found the breath-taking Duomo (cathedral) flanked with the towering bell tower. In front is the golden doored Baptistry.

Afterwards we did an orientation walk of Firenze taking in some of the renown leather markets, classic streets, gelaterias and of course the Ponte Vecchio, Ponte Santa Trinita and Ponte alla Carraia.
Nice helmets on the local constabulary!

And now the most famous bridge in Firenze - the Ponte Di Vecchio.

This is Ponte Santa Trinita.

Ponte Santa Trinitia with Chuisa Di San Spirito behind.

And finally, Firenze is the world's capital for GELATO! It's everywhere.

Here's a great little foodie delight to finish today's blog entry.
